Professional Experience

 

1997-2009  Teacher of Studio Art (2005-09) and Teacher of Digital Art and Digital Animation (1997-2005), Berkshire School, Sheffield, MA

 

                    The Berkshire School is a private secondary, college preparitory boarding school. Responsibilities included the creation of studio and digital art curricula.

 

1993-95       Associate Director of Admissions (1993) and Coordinator of Parent School Relations (1994-95), The Desisto School, Stockbridge, MA

 

                     The Desisto School is a private secondary boarding school for students with emotional and addiction issues. Responsibilities included all communication between the Director of the school, parents, school boards from many states, state agencies, etc.

 

1990-93        Creator and Director, Challenged Artists Together (CAT), Las Cruces, NM

 

                     Began with eleven students. In three years, I built a full spectrum arts program for children, adolescents and adults with disabilities, serving two hundred students a week, with fifteen artists teaching, fifty volunteers, New Mexico State University graduate student interns, exhibitions for our students at the University gallery, involvement with the community theater, a summer arts camp for children with disabilities, and transportation for all students. I also established CAT’s non-profit status and secured funding, including a New Mexico State grant for a fifteen passenger, wheelchair accessible van for our students.

 

1992-93        Membership in Border Artists, Las Cruces, NM

 

                     Border Artists was an arts organization that created exchange exhibitions throughout the Southwest and with Mexico.

1981-84        Television Talk-Show Host, Woodstock Cable TV, Woodstock, NY

 

                     Created and hosted a weekly cable television show, “Fire, It’s a Verb,” broadcast on Woodstock Cable TV. Every Friday night for a half-hour on live television, I would interview a guest who would play the saxophone or read poetry while I drew his or her portrait in brightly hued pastels on black paper.

 

1981-84        Art Instructor, The Astor School for Children, Rhinebeck, NY

 

                     The Astor School is a residential treatment center for children who are severely emotionally disturbed. I found that the students responded successfully when I worked with them one-on-one, helping them to make art about their lives.

                     The Showing Room was a 5,000-square-foot performance and exhibition space. I initiated the concept, developed the funding, designed and oversaw the renovation of the exhibition space, and served as the director and curator.

 

1976-78        Teacher of Painting and Drawing, Roslyn Museum of Fine Arts, Roslyn, NY

 

1976-78        Teacher of Painting, The Five Towns School District, Long Island, NY

 

                      I worked with groups of severely troubled adolescents in each of the five public high schools, coaching the students in painting a sixty-by-ten-foot mural about their  lives in each school’s cafeteria.

 

1973-78        Members of SoHo20 Gallery, a women’s cooperative gallery, New York, NY

 

                     SoHo20 Gallery was an influential women’s cooperative gallery. We successfully interfaced with the media and received significant critical attention. As one of its early members, I participated in curating the exhibitions, presenting panel discussions, and selecting members.

 

1968-69        Studio Assistant for Raymond Parker, SoHo, New York, NY

 

                      In Raymond Parker’s studio on Prince Street, I facilitated the execution of the paintings from his sketches.
